Barks & Recreation – Get To Know Us!

Michelle: Daycare Attendant

Continuing our series of staff introductions we wanted to introduce you all to Michelle! Michelle watches over and plays with all the dogs that come to us for daycare and boarding! She has been certified in Pet First Aid and CPR, and she’s also working on her degree in Animal Behavior and Dog Training! We are so glad to have such a versatile (and funny) person as part of our staff!

Q: Where did you grow up? Tell us a little about it!

A: I grew up in Queens, New York. It’s a much faster pace up there than down here. I spent all my time in NYC! New York is full of diversity and art. I feel like it made me more artistic and well rounded!

Q: What did you want to be growing up?

A: I wanted to be a soldier in the US Army or a doctor.

Q: Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

A: I opened a tattoo shop in Queens after my enlistment in the Army. I kept it open until Hurricane Sandy, then moved back and forth from Florida and St. Louis.

Q: What is something that’s on your bucket list?

A: I would like to open a Chihuahua rescue! I think Chihuahua’s are often misunderstood, just like how Pitbulls are. They are a great, loyal breed.

Q: If you could go anywhere for vacation where would you go and what would you do there?

A: I would go to a different continent, maybe Australia or Africa. I would like to learn different cultures and different ways of life without cellphones and the things we take for granted.

Q: Do you have any interesting hobbies?

A: I like to go fishing or catch a Yankees game.

Q: What made you decide to work with animals?

A: After I lost my first dog, I knew then that my purpose here was to change the lives of dogs around me!

Q: What is your favorite thing about working with dogs every day?

A: My favorite thing is knowing that I can make a dogs day much more fun and full of love. They make my day as well so it’s nice to give that back to them.

Q: Do you have any cute or funny stories about a dog at Barks & Rec?

A:  Our dogs are all part of a pack at Barks & Rec. It took them a minute to accept me in their pack but once they did, it was admirable!

Q: What are three words you would use to describe Barks & Rec?

A: Is this a trick question? Just kidding!
